The NSW Government and Liverpool City Council have dramatically improved access to the beautiful Georges River at Angle Park, Chipping Norton.
Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun said it is a great example of what local councils and the state government can achieve when they work together.
“Angle Park has long been a popular spot on the river for sailing and launching boats as well as having family picnics,” Mayor Mannoun said.
“The massive upgrade means there is better accessibility, the landscaping has been dramatically improved and the area is now much more stable.
“It’s now even easier to have a picnic on the banks of the river and Liverpool Council thanks the NSW Government for supporting the project,” he said.
The $1 million park upgrade was made possible by a $750,000 grant from the NSW Government’s Places to Swim program. The Places to Swim program supports the creation of more places in NSW for people to enjoy water-side recreation. Since 2021, the program has improved accessibility to rivers, lakes, dams and other inland waterways.
Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said whether it was kayaking, paddle boarding or swimming, the improved access to Angle Park will future proof the popular spot so that residents in Liverpool and the surrounding suburbs can enjoy it for many years to come.
“Angle Park has long been a weekend hotspot for families and friends to gather, relax and play. The recent upgrades have built on this, providing better access for people to take a dip in the Georges River while also delivering great new terraced seating and picnic areas for people to enjoy year-round on the shore.”
The $1 million park upgrade was made possible with a $700,000 grant under the Places to Swim program administered by the Department of Planning and Environment.
As a result of the works, there are now better pathways, terraced seating, picnic tables and native landscaped areas.
Ease of access improvements include handrails, fall prevention, gentle incline ramps, better lighting at night and a wheelchair friendly ramp leading from accessible car parking to Angle Park Wharf.
